Tom & Lois White Collaboration
Tom White is a contemporary new media artist. His detailed process is a hybrid of the disciplines of photography, painting, design, science, technology, and printmaking in both analog and digital media.
White is the founding director and resident artist of WHITEPOINT Gallery and WHITEPOINT Fine Art located in Asbury Park, NJ. His 35+ year journey in the arts began with physics studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, then receiving his BFA from Syracuse University in which he studied printmaking, photography and design. After a long and successful career as an art director and illustrator, he moved his practice to the finer arts in 2013.
The foundation of his work is the curiosity, exploration and discovery of the world around us, created or natural. Beneath the surface, many things that we encounter regularly which seem to be obvious turn out to be far more glorious than we had time to imagine.
“I have embraced all of the contemporary tools of art making even before they were widely accepted in the art world. As an artist, it is important to me to challenge the viewer’s perceptions of traditional and new media and change preconceived notions of each. This allows the viewer to focus on the image and question how they see it, adding dynamic new layers to the story behind it”
I never thought I would to have to say this: I wholeheartedly REJECT artificial intelligence (AI) or any auto-generated imagery. I think the most important thing about artists is their creative mind and ability to create that vision. I do not use it for my work.
Recent exhibitions of note include “Seaside Dreaming: Grandeur” a solo benefit exhibition for the Rema Hort Mann Foundation founded by art collectors Michael and Susan Hort, and “FLOW” - the WHITEPOINT 10th anniversary solo exhibition at which “Crumpled Canvases” (submitted here) was introduced.
White’s clients are art collectors, art consultants, developers, interior designers, and architects. In addition to commercial and residential commissions, his work is in numerous private collections.
Tom and his wife Lois are cofounders and artists in residence at WHITEPOINT. Both are visual artists working in photography-based new media.
They are also the founders of WHITEPOINT FINE ART printing and framing studio providing fine art services to clients throughout the New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia region.
